On June 28th, Manna Pro Products, LLC, voluntarily recalled their Flock Party Quack treats for chickens and ducks. They only recalled the series of Quack snacks with the Best By date of 12/23.
This product is packed in 1.68 lbs magenta and light blue plastic bags and is the only Manna Pro product known to be infected.
Manna Party Quack treats are voluntarily recalled because the State of West Virginia discovered the presence of Salmonella during their routine control.
The presence of the bacteria in other bags is possible but not certain. No salmonella poisoning cases have yet been reported.
However, if you happen to have the recalled product, follow these steps:
- Stop giving these treats to your pets immediately.
- Throw them away so that no one can come in contact with them.
- Sanitize all places that the Quack treats had contact with.
- If your pet shows any changes in behavior that could be a sign of Salmonella infection, visit the veterinarian immediately.
The symptoms of salmonella poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramping, and bloody stool. With vomiting and diarrhea, your pet can dehydrate quickly and even die.
The person handling the treats could also be infected with Salmonella if they didn’t wash or disinfect their hands right after. Even if you don’t experience the symptoms, you can be a carrier.
So, if you or any of your household members have any of the previously mentioned symptoms, visit your doctor immediately.
Manna Pro is still investigating how the bacteria occurred. But, if you are interested in learning more, look at the FDA official announcement.
