Family Dollar Stores Recall All Pet Food

Family Dollar Stores recall all animal food products they sell due to potential Salmonella contamination and the presence of rodent activity at their distribution center.

Family Dollar Distribution Center 202 got infected by rodents, so all the products shipped from this center to the stores could present a possible hazard to both pets and their owners.

Since the problem was found at their distribution center number 202, 404 stores it supplies were affected, and the recall is valid only for these stores. So be sure to check out if your Family Dollar Store is among them

As rodents are natural Salmonella carriers, consuming the affected food can lead to infection and severe health problems.

If your pet is generally healthy, this can make them experience abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. But if you have a pet that is already sick, this infection might be fatal for them. For example, cats with FeLV have a lower immune response, and their body is not able to process the Salmonella infection.

So, if you notice any symptoms, take your pet to the vet immediately. If the symptoms are milder, you can consult an online vet to get useful advice on what you should do.

If you have any contact with your pet’s food, watch out for the Salmonella poisoning symptoms too. You can get the infection by just touching the food and not washing your hands immediately.

The products that were in contact with rodents can no longer be found at the stores, but if you already bought any food at Family Dollar Stores, stop using it immediately and return it to the store for a full refund, with no receipt.

It’s important to know that not only animal food was recalled, so if you’re a regular shopper at Family Dollar Stores, check out what other products were affected.
