June is National Foster a Pet Month!
Fostering pets may be a small act of kindness to humans, but it’s another chance at life for animals. Rather than being in a shelter, foster parents bring pets into their homes in hopes of giving them a more comfortable life until they find their forever family.
Every year, more than 6.5 million animal companions end up in shelters. How can we prevent these high numbers? How can we help? Fostering helps!
Fostering is essential for many reasons. It helps shelters with overcrowding which allows another animal to be rescued and saved. It also gives animals the chance to get used to a home environment, express their personality, and overcome fear and anxiety.
There are many ways we can spread awareness and do our part in contributing to National Foster a Pet Month. Here are some ideas below:
- Foster a pet
- Volunteer in a shelter
- Social Media shoutout
- Reach out to the local shelter
- Educate others
- Spread awareness
On average, the US saves 76.6% of shelter animals, but we can do better. Calling our local shelter, finding out what they need and how we can help is a start. Spreading awareness about the importance of being a foster will drastically change a lot of homeless pet lives.
Shelters have many breeds to choose from. Some humans may be looking for a couch potato, and others for a running partner. We decided to make your life easier and created a list of all of the popular dog breeds and their personality traits to help you find the best fit for your lifestyle.
For National Foster a Pet Month, let’s try to have as many discussions as possible on the importance of being a foster. Post and share stories on social media. Invite your family and friends to join you and volunteer with you. We can all do something that can help.
If you’ve got the space and time to bring a pet under your roof, now is a perfect time to do it. Not only are you gaining a companion, but you’re also saving a life.
